| Ruth is from
a small town in Missouri but is excited to be relocating
to the big city of Boston. She graduated with a BA in
biology from Truman State University in 2004. This summer
she will complete a Master’s of Arts in education
with an emphasis on middle school science. During her
undergraduate career, she focused on fostering science
education in her local town by sponsoring a local prairie
conference for fifth graders. She spent time researching
cheatgrass in Eastern Washington and corals in Belize;
she also spent one summer working for Vermont Audubon
where she grew to love informal science education. An
avid traveler, she has explored 7 countries and much
of the United States. Besides traveling, she loves live
music, cooking (especially vegetarian/vegan food), meeting
new people, reading, local coffee shops, hiking, watching
movies, and musical theater. She is enthusiastic about
exploring Urban Ecology and sharing this knowledge with
teenagers over the upcoming year.
