Testimonials
“UEI gave us all this for free. They give us information, transportation, and just people that the kids can talk to.”

- Lisa Henderson, Teacher, TechBoston Academy

Neighborhood Wellness
Both divisions of the Urban Ecology Institute are united in their overarching goal: to create neighborhoods where people love where they live. Through our Education division, UEI helps foster confidence in urban youth - UEI wants to connect these youth and their newfound confidence to community leadership. Similarly, our Sustainable Cities division works with urban residents to make real, lasting change in their communities by bringing groups together through urban forestry projects – UEI wants to link these residents in a network of neighborhood stewards. To achieve a deeper impact in both divisions, UEI builds social capital among UEI participants and increases the social cohesion of the communities in which we work. Social cohesion encompasses how people feel about themselves, each other and their community. It speaks to their sense of self, sense of place, sense of safety, commitment to environmental stewardship, belief in public institutions, their health and their level of civic and social engagement. To realize our vision of healthy, vibrant and sustainable cities, UEI works towards these goals in all of our programs. The Neighborhood Wellness team of UEI works to ensure the Education and Sustainable Cities programs are serving communities and residents by maximizing their social capital and social cohesion outcomes and evaluates our programs based on these outcomes.
