UEI Field Studies
The field studies program at UEI engages students and teachers in environmental and science education, making use of local schoolyards, parks, forests, marshes, harbors, and rivers as ecological investigation sites and fostering a sense of ownership of the local urban environment. By giving educators the opportunity to integrate place-based ecological field studies into their instruction, UEI Field Studies challenges teachers and students alike to examine the complexities of a dynamic urban ecological system through hands-on, interactive research.

What We Do
UEI specializes in place-based, hands-on science learning, based on the following:
Benefits for Teachers
UEI's instructional benefits extend to both in and outside of the classroom, as a way of enhancing the instructional efficacy of teachers implementing the urban ecology curriculum strands in their classrooms:
Field Studies OST Program
UEI Field Studies support scientific inquiry and urban ecology education at out-of-school-time (OST) sites, both during the school year and throughout the summer. Working with coordinators at 13 sites across the Boston area, UEI provides educators with curriculum and field support for elementary-level urban ecology studies.
